What does the number 40 mean

We are turning 40. An organization that continues to grow and impact our city for life is certainly worth celebrating. 40 years seemed significant so I turned to Scripture to investigate other events where the number 40 had impact. Here's the shortened list of the many references to 40 that appear in the Bible:

• It rained for 40 days and nights as Noah was rescued on the ark.

• Israel wandered in the desert and ate manna for 40 years.

• Moses fasted for 40 days and nights on Mt Sinai as he met with God to receive the Ten Commandments.

• The spies investigated the promised land for 40 days.

• In the book of Judges, God gave Israel 40 years of rest.

• Eli was a Judge for 40 years.

• Goliath taunted the Israelites for 40 days.

• Saul reigned for 40 years.

• David reigned for 40 years.

• Solomon reigned for 40 years.

• The Holy Place inside the Temple was 40 cubits long.

• Josiah reigned for 40 years.

• God gave Ninevah 40 days to repent.

• Jesus fasted for 40 days before His temptation.

• Jesus remained on earth 40 days after his resurrection.

40 Weeks in the Womb

Planned Parenthood's website continues to tout claims about how safe abortion pills are: “Safe and effective,” “Safe and simple,” “Safe and super common,” are phrases repeated throughout their website. PeriodPills.org advertises abortion as "period pills" -- a "safe and effective way to end your pregnancy" with or without a positive pregnancy test! Here's the claim:

If your period is late, you can take missed period pills to make sure you aren't pregnant. Period pills end your early pregnancy. You do not have to take a test before using pills.

The FDA, the Association of American Medical Colleges, and the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) all have signed on and agree, it’s really really safe…really. The studies cited however are from 2012. And remember that these groups all have something to gain from the growing abortion industry.

But the real-life stories like Brandy's and most current 2023 PA statistics don’t support the claims of this “safe and simple” procedure. 

According to the FDA's own label, roughly one in 25 of the women who use these drugs may end up in the Emergency Department because of

complications related to their abortion. Hemorrhage, infection, retained fetal product, and sepsis will be the reasons for her visit.

Is the Tide Beginning to Turn

Over the past year, we have written about the perceptions and claims of those promoting and advancing abortion. Abortion claims to provide freedom and equity for women. It has been called safe, simple, and good for women. But abortion has not delivered on any of it's promises. It is not safe and it is not rare. It has not lifted women out of poverty. It has not advanced women in relationships or careers. It has not contributed to the health and well-being of women and families. Instead it has offered a false choice between fertility and success and delivers neither. It allows men to continue in poor behavior and has separated them from life and death decisions about their own children.

It seems that the truth is being exposed.

Check out the articles published this week. Light is being shined on the darkness of abortion. These articles give us hope that sanity is returning. Now is the time to talk about these vital issues.

Take it to Prayer

Pray for our Staff members as they work one on one with those most vulnerable to abortion. 

Thank God for all those who have participated in this work. Volunteers, financial supporters, community outreach and church leaders have been vital to our 40 year history.

Pray for our nation as light is shined on the darkness of abortion. Pray for the truth to be revealed, for a balance of clarity and compassion. Pray that Pittsburgh could become a sanctuary city for life!
