Fact Check Friday-“Abortion is going down since the Dobbs decision...It's not a big problem now."

We have a problem.

But it's a good problem to have if you care for mothers and babies.

Our numbers are higher than ever before. And we need your help.

In 2025, our three centers have broken all previous records. In May, we served 144 unique clients at 200 separate appointments. This was double the number from one year ago. May was not unique. Each month this year, we have seen an increase in pregnancy tests, ultrasounds, and Wellness visits.

Our advertising is working. Our centers are busy. Our new Monroeville office, opened in February, has three times the capacity of the former space and is filled every day. Simply said, we are absolutely fulfilling our mission to reach and empower those who are most vulnerable to abortion to choose life.

But we have a problem. Women making life and death decisions now have to wait nearly a week for an open appointment because our staffing teams are overstretched. This wonderful increase in clients requires that we hire additional staff to provide more services each day.

Will you help us respond to the great need in our city? We are reaching women at a critical moment. We provide exactly what they need--a caring professional who will listen to their fears, and an ultrasound that can literally change hearts and minds. There can be no delay.

Abortion numbers are rising post-Roe because modern abortion is borderless, fast, and increasingly private.

The demand for abortion is rising. And we didn't see it coming. Three years ago we were drinking champagne to celebrate the overturning of Roe v Wade, a disastrous 1973 decision allowing abortion in every State for any reason. The Dobbs decision gave decisions about abortion laws and restrictions back to the states. Some states immediately banned abortion or created common sense laws to protect women and babies.

Sadly, Pennsylvania was not one of those states.

The number of abortions reported by "formal health systems" has actually risen in PA and across the country in the past three years. There were 35,412 abortions in PA in 2023 (the latest data) showing a slight uptick. But this is only part of the story. It is estimated that the abortion pill, or chemical abortion, accounts for nearly 70% of all abortions. Some of these abortions are reported but a growing number of pills are mailed directly to women from sources outside PA and even outside the US. These abortion numbers don't appear in the official reports.

Many women completely bypass the traditional "abortion clinic" experience preferring a more anonymous purchase online. Search for "who sells abortion pills online" and you'll find over a dozen sources on page one of Google. One access group, Abuzz, allowed me to order pills in 2 minutes asking only 5 simple questions. Want to skip over the risks and medical info? Just click "next". I can enter my name and credit card info, and pills arrive in my mailbox in 3 to 7 days. No informed consent, no parental oversight for minors, no doctors or medical support. And no one will know.

Here's more bad news

  • Abortion pills can be ordered by anyone at anytime

  • Abortion pills can be ordered in bulk for future "emergencies" or to give to a friend

  • Abortion hurts women. Complications from abortion pills have tripled in the last 5 years in PA. A new study says 1 in 11 will end up with a serious adverse effect.

  • Our centers can reach women but desperately need staff and resources to keep up with the growing numbers

But here is the good news!

  • Women seeking abortion are searching online

  • We are there and can reach her first

  • When we can see her immediately, we can make a difference!

  • Your gifts allow us to grow, make an impact, and saves lives

Women Deserve Better

We know that every abortion takes the life of a precious person created in God's image. We know too that abortion impacts that child's mother and father in a profound and permanent way. Care after abortion has always been a vital part of our outreach.

Our Breathe program recognizes the shame, grief, and confusion that so many suffer. Our team helps Breathe participants to sort it out, we value the process and extend the love of Christ and forgiveness and healing He alone can offer.
