Ten years ago, I heard a recording that I’ll never forget. It was introduced by the sound of metal BBs hitting a tin can… making a sort of ch-chang sound. Each BB represented 10,000 lives lost in a US war. The recording started with the Civil War… a long stream of ch-chang chang chang sounds from so many lives lost. The list of wars continued, each with its own somber sound. The final war in the recording is the war on the unborn. We listened as the BBs hit the can representing 6 million lives lost to abortion. The sound of the BBs went on and on, unrelenting. It seemed endless, excruciating, heart wrenching.
That same year, a co-worker gave me a priceless gift. We had reached a milestone of 5,000 lives saved inside our centers. She presented me with a jar filled with 5,000 BBs and a note that said: “These are the ones that didn’t hit the tin can.”
I have cherished that gift and added a BB for every new life saved. Today I am so excited to share that the jar has 8,000 BBs and counting. Baby number 8,000 was born in March. But baby number 8,000 is so much more than a number. Her mom, Patricia, came to us without hope. Like so many of our moms, Patricia was stuck in a lifestyle that had limited her future. As a single mother, another baby seemed impossible. Because of your support, Patricia has found hope. Her visits along our “Wellness Journey” provided medical services, practical education, and material assistance. No longer a casualty in the war on the unborn, her tiny baby girl is a joy to her family.
I recently had to buy a bigger jar for all of the BBs! Thank you for your investment as we fill our center with those who need us most.
