What are the pressures that make a woman consider abortion? While each story is unique, we see
common factors in the lives of our client couples. We know for certain that the father of the baby is the most influential person in her decision. Finances, employers, and education might be important
considerations as well. But one of the biggest pressures our client might face is her concern for the other children she is already parenting.
You may not know that in Pennsylvania, 49% of women who choose abortion have one or more children at home. “Tricia” was one of those moms. She came for a pregnancy test appointment with her little one in tow. Her ultrasound revealed a beautiful tiny baby but Tricia was uneasy. The father of both of the babies was largely absent or distant. Tricia’s mother, who joined her at the appointment, repeatedly warned that Tricia “should really think about it (abortion)” and that having another child “would really limit her.” We can all certainly empathize with Tricia’s mom who only wanted what was best for her daughter. But as we got to know Tricia, it was clear that her lifestyle and choices were destructive. And we’ve learned that abortion does not solve those issues but instead simply delays a future pregnancy while stripping young moms of dignity and self-worth.
Our work goes deeper than a simple “life or death” decision. We desire to see transformation. Our
programs point our clients to the God who loves them and who offers abundant life. At each stop on our Wellness Journey, we see small changes and an openness to wisdom and careful decision making. We model healthy relationships and provide a “Body Literacy” program that equips young women to value and guard their body.
We are so grateful to serve moms like Tricia and watch as they become the mothers they hoped they would be. Thank you for your partnership. Because of you, lives are saved and families like Tricia’s are transformed.
God bless,
Amy Scheuring, Executive Director
